Ponies!

Well, six alpacas don't each much grass and with 12 acres (or roughly 5.5 hectares), in a temperate area with springs and creeks everywhere, we have a whole lot of the stuff.
The recent warm/wet/warm/wet weather we've been having has also meant it's coming up a lot earlier in the season than normal too so the ride-on mower has been getting a thorough workout around the house, trying to chew it down a bit - not great for either the ride-on or the grass, but what can you do!
I spied an ad on gumtree.com for some urgently required agistment. Some miniature ponies living on a too small block without sufficient grass.
Perfect! So, we've currently got some little 'horseys' boarding with us and they're happily munching down the grass. The alpacas don't quite know what to make of them, and the little ponies don't quite know what to make of the alpacas.They're in separate paddocks so they just check each other out across the fence. I'm not quite sure what they'd do if in together - we have lots of paddocks so just as easy to let them have their separate lodgings.
The ponies are a bit shorter in height than the alpacas but quite a bit stockier. They run full pelt around the paddock at dusk too just like the alpacas, but they don't do the bouncing thing (probably a good thing, given their weight and the soft, squishy ground we have here!).
They are very cute though and their people are happy because the ponies are closer to where they live than the other place where they were (they still have others there though, so still need to travel quite a bit to look after them).
These guys are "show ponies" too, so will be interesting to see them being trimmed up and manicured for the show season which is coming up soon.
