Bye Bye Magic

Our lovely, smoochy Magic (or Maggi Noodles as he'd affectionately become known), went to his new home on Saturday.
As a little guy I trained Magic to walk on a lead and taught him to get in and out of the back seat of our Mazda hatchback. It seemed like a good idea at the time, he was only about 6 months old. He still only just fit in there then though, as he had a huge fleece on him and he's not what you'd call a compact alpaca.
At over two years, he's now much bigger and there's no way I could try to stuff him into the car, so he went in the trailer. Funny though, when I was training him, I must've walked him in and out of that trailer a million times and still, when it was time for his final trip last Saturday, he didn't want to go in.
Eventually, I convinced him it was ok, as he was going to meet some lovely new lady alpacas (who weren't all his sisters or aunts as they are here). He'd be in a new place where he would be head honcho and have beautiful girls all to himself.
His new people are lovely. They have a 1700 acre farm with 2000 plus sheep and about the same number of chooks (or at least a very large number - I didn't try to count them). And a little alpaca herd, a couple of girls with crias.
He was a bit unsure to start with and seemed to be looking for an alpaca he knew and wandered off to check out the place. So, we went in for a coffee. When the time came for us to leave, we checked on him and he was getting very happily acquainted with one of the girls. He wasn't interested in us at all so it was so much easier to leave.
I think he'll be very happy there. If he'd have stayed here much longer, we would have had to castrate him as he's too closely related to our girls to have him left entire. But he's a beautiful male with the bonus of a sweet personality so it's wonderful that he found a home in time. The girls he's with are lovely looking alpacas too, so I think they'll have some stunning crias this time next year.
Will still miss him though.
