Christmas - Gone to the Dogs
December 26th 2007 22:37
The 'kids' in our family get Christmas pressies. The dachies enjoy ripping into parcels and it’s watching them that makes Christmas for me.
The alpacas aren’t into parcels so much, so they just got extra muesli, yummy lucerne hay and chopped up carrots for their Christmas dinner.
The humans in our family are a bit over the Christmas gift giving thing too, so we dispensed with all that and avoided the consumer frenzy which seems to turn otherwise well adjusted people into aggressive shopping monsters.
So, to give the Christmas crazed shoppers more room, I bought the dachies pressies on Ebay from the ‘What's Up Dox Dachshund Shoppe’ which supports dachshund rescue. They sell lovely things, well worth a look. (And no, they didn’t pay me to write this).
I didn’t need to line up for an hour and a half to buy them either!
Lucy somehow knows when there’s a squeaky toy in the house, even if she hasn’t even seen it. She must know the smell or something. So the toys have to be kept well hidden until the day. All the dachies know the sound of tissue paper being wrapped around pressies too, which makes it all a bit of a challenge. Great fun though. The look of anticipation on a dog's face is priceless.
Here are a couple of home movies. Sorry about the picture quality. They're large files so I had to squish them for the Internet. Hope they don't take too long to load. Grab a cuppa and some more Christmas cake while you're waiting

The girls are still rolling about out there, getting rounder by the minute. One's humming to herself a bit this morning, so I'll be watching closely. Cheers.

Four dachies are no trouble at all. I suppose it helps that the youngest is 8 years old though.
I'm the pack leader. Heidi, the oldest girl, likes to put it over the others in a few very subtle ways though. She's a funny chook.
The alpacas would make short work of a dachie if they felt threatened, so they're allowed to watch each other through the fence but that's all. Cheers.
