Bye, Heidi :-(
May 13th 2012 08:07
Both were getting on, Annie Belle was 13 and Heidi made it to 15. Makes no difference though, still heartbreaking when they go, regardless of the age they are at the time.
Heidi was allergic to just about everything; red meat, chicken, fish, gluten, dairy... you name it she'd react by sneezing, coughing, chewing her skin raw... we (and her first family) spent a fortune on tests to find out what exactly was causing her problems, but in the end we just 'lived with it", by having her on a on a diet with a low allergy diet, the occasional 'risky' treat, either to get her to eat (as the normal diet was pretty BORING, by anyone's standards), or if a visitor innocently slipped something to her, without being aware of her problems.
In the end though, her gall bladder, bile duct, kidneys, liver, spleen etc etc started to have issues and she was on about six different pills. The vet wasn't too optimistic and we'd already decided against surgical intervention for her (at 15 and with her existing health problems), so we decided time to call it a day.
So, just one dachy here now and he's fretting A LOT! He's 13 and hasn't been on his own since he was a 6 month old pup. So a lot of adjustment happening here right now, including some attention required right now, so will have to leave all that for another post.
