Daizi’s Baby

March 10th 2008 22:26
My beautiful Daizi had her first cria on Saturday. I thought she’d been behaving a bit imminent for a few days. Her due date was the 13th March so the gestation was 333 days.

Of course, we were out when the cria arrived – we went to test drive a Toyota Prius (would like it, just thinking about the finances). When we got home, I saw a tiny little baby way down the paddock. I thought it could be Alana’s baby who is nearly 4 weeks old, but looked a little small so we went down to have a look

Putting Girls with Boys

February 22nd 2008 04:35
We’ve been doing some alpaca mating again.

The gestation for an alpaca is 11 and a half months, and female alpacas can re-breed again pretty well straight away. So, in a wild herd they would be pregnant most of their lives

White Boy

February 3rd 2008 22:57
Maralyn’s cria arrived on Saturday. Now we have two birthdays on the 2nd Feb, dachshund Lucy, and alpaca (yet to be named), though we don’t generally celebrate the alpacas’ birthdays. Just the first one. Even after 11 years it’s still exciting when a new baby arrives.

Big Bubba Bellies

There are three girls out there definitely due to unpack sometime soon.

Maralyn is due on the 16th Feb, but I think she’ll go early. She’s rolling about the place humming to herself (or her baby, or to the air!). Maralyn is Madeline’s mum and always has stunning crias. So fingers crossed for another beautiful baby for her

Pema and Chameli go home

January 22nd 2008 22:00
We took Pema and her cria home on Sunday. Pema stayed with us for a couple of months while waiting to have her baby. Having only a couple of boys (wethers) to hang around with at home and this being her first cria, she came to our place so she could have the company of some other girls for a while.

Her cria has been named Chameli (pronounced chaa-meh-lee). This is a Tibetan name for the jasmine flower, which is tiny and has a white face (just like the cria). Pema means ‘white lotus

There are a couple of possibilities for acquiring a boyfriend for Madeline. We could pay for a one off stud service, or we could purchase a working male.

A Boyfriend for Madeline?

January 9th 2008 02:20
This Friday is beautiful Maddy’s birthday. We don’t generally celebrate the alpacas' birthdays, they’re not like the dogs who get presents and a party etc.

We have been looking around for a nice boy for Maddy though as now she's all grown up she'll want to have a cria of her own to look after. (I'd like her to have a cria of her own to look after too
