Pema and Chameli go home

We took Pema and her cria home on Sunday. Pema stayed with us for a couple of months while waiting to have her baby. Having only a couple of boys (wethers) to hang around with at home and this being her first cria, she came to our place so she could have the company of some other girls for a while.

Her cria has been named Chameli (pronounced chaa-meh-lee). This is a Tibetan name for the jasmine flower, which is tiny and has a white face (just like the cria). Pema means ‘white lotus

Little Baby Update

The four new crias are doing well and are happily exploring their world.

The oldest, Donald, is smaller than both Emily and Holly, who are nearly a week younger. The girls' mums are bigger animals, so it makes sense

A Winner!

One of my babies has won a supreme championship! Our little Penelope (Penny), who we sold with her mum a short while ago, took out the grand prize at a recent alpaca show.

Introducing Madeline

This is Maddy, born on 11 January 07. She has a teddy bear face, which is a very trendy look in alpacas at the moment and absolutely tons of fleece. (The fleeces are coming off next Friday, weather permitting – mental note to self : Must clean out the shed!)

24 Hours - Up and At Em

One day old now. He, “Marco Polo” has been cruising about, and he now knows exactly where the milk bar is.

I’m having big trouble getting a decent photo of him. He’s near black, which is always an issue for photos, especially when you’re out in the field and rely on natural lighting. But the photos just don’t seem to be capturing him as he really looks for some reason
