Fiona’s Baby
December 23rd 2007 21:07
It’s a boy! Little Intrepid D'Entrecasteaux arrived yesterday morning at 11am.
I was just heading out to do some ‘gardening’ with the brush cutter and casually looked out the window to check on the girls. Mike asked, “anything happening out there?” I answered no, but then one of the girls moved out of the way and I spotted a little head and legs sticking out. “Take that back, Fiona’s having a baby”.
So we managed to see the birth, it was very quick. Some alpaca mums take a long time (or, at least what seems like a long time), and others just get on with it. This is Fiona’s first cria, so I’m surprised at how easily it went for her.
Every alpaca’s name ultimately gets abbreviated around here. He’ll have D'Entrecasteaux on his papers, but he's already been called Donald. I know it's a totally different name, but easier to pronounce. He may even just get Don as time goes by.
These are all photos taken at a few seconds/minutes old. He’s a great looking little boy, but I can’t get a decent photo at the moment as it’s been raining all night. I’m not complaining about that, rain over night, sunny, warm days. Perfect.
Keeping an eye out for Pema now. Alice is due soon too. She’s looking huge, so the books open on who will go next.

Thanks AmyHuang. Keeping a close eye on the other two girls due soon. They both look like they're going to pop. They deflate like balloons when the baby arrives.
Have a happy Christmas.

A text book delivery. Mum and bub well, though a bit wet today.
Hot sun then downpour, hot sun, downpour - all day.
They all keep running for the shed, Donald included.
Have a good one.
